How do you write an About Me page?
There are four main questions that readers want answered on your About Me page:
- who you are…
- your expertise and how it addresses…
- their problem or goal, and how they can…
- contact you
Here is a sample “About Me” page that answers these questions:
Hi, I’m Jane Smith and I write TransitionMomBlog (who Jane is) to help women make the transition from full-time mom to successful entrepreneur (the reader’s problem or goal). I started TransitionMomBlog in 2004 (Jane’s expertise – shows she has been blogging for two years) to help other women deal with the sometimes overwhelming prospect of starting a new business while still running a household (how Jane helps them overcome their problem or achieve their goal). Prior to raising my family, I spent over ten years as a teacher, corporate trainer and workshop leader (Jane’s expertise, both as a mom and a business person). To contact me, please email XXX (how to contact Jane).

This is a great post, thank you for the short and sweet information. It has helped alot within only one month, however, with low page rank, my blog doesn’t get much traffic from google, but msn seems to throw some traffic my way so you have helped in some way.

Thanks, this is so useful! The ‘About Me’ is something so small and simple, but writing a good one isn’t so simple at all. Especially in my field, the ‘About Me’ is the business card that draws my clients in. It’s essential!
I get some visits to my “About Me” page, and I almost always, visit the about me page, of blogs I view.
If the about me page gives a good description of the author, and they show themselves as being credible, I am more apt to rely on the information they post, hence, visit them more often, and possibly link to their site.
Being a female, nontraditional age, low tech blogger, I have used my about me page to explain to my readers, “where I came from, and why I blog. Having said that, my about me page has ended up pretty lengthy.

I have friends that always ask me about writing the “About me” page. Before your post, I would always tell that to write what they “feel” about their current moods of creating their blog sites. But now, you have created a template for most people to follow as a guideline.

Nice checklist to use, depending on what you want to convey or portray, I guess it’s also a matter of balancing how personal you want to get and how much credibility you wish to project.

The about me page for any program – blog, website, social community – has also stumped me. But thanks for some really simple, basic directions (and the example is appreciated) to follow to take the work out of this and make it fun :)
You make it sound too formal IMO, I think we should not look at it that formal. However, i can not argue that the mentioned points are relevant.

You’d think writing ‘About Me’ would be easy, wouldn’t you? At least until you’re faced with that blank page. My blog is only an infant yet and there’s a lot to learn before it grows. After reading this, I’m going to have to re-think the ‘About Me’ page.
I’ve always kinda left the “about me” Page alone. Cause I never really knew what to put in there. Now that I know… I’m gonna work on it and sort it out. :)

If you don’t write a good about me page, what can you expect from your blog content ?
My ‘about me’ page is different than the usual templated style that one would find on a blog or website. I did this because it’s a personal site so I figured I could just have fun and get away with it not looking professional.
I’ve actually gotten a few emails about my ‘about me’ page asking me questions or telling me their thoughts on it. Go figure.
About Me page is an important factor for a successful blog. People should know who is the owner of the blog.
I read tips but I couldn’t find my visitor’s problem or goal. I will think on that and I will rearrange my About Me page later.
I think I have to change my “about me” page, since it’s seem not well writen :P

Seriously, thanks for this great article, I only have one question…woldn’t the expertise have to refer to the specific field the blog is about? For example, as a blog reader, if I follow a marketing blog I want to see the author’s offline expertise before I trust his advice.

Darren is right. A simple, personable “about me” can do wonders for your business and is one of the simplest and most often overlooked tools of the trade.
The “about me” section is basically your pitch book and often your only way to let the world know about who you truly are, what aspirations you have, your motto in essence.

I like this; short and sweet. I was writing an autobiography and wondered why no one was interested – except for my mother, of course. Now I answer the four questions you recommend and get on with the business of blogging!
People respond well to figures, facts and statistics. Try to get great information and as many facts as you can. A good and well written article (like in http://whatsonweb.blogspot.com) will boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen field or topic. As more people believe in you. They will be able to trust you and your products.

I absolutely hate writing about pages. I have an about page that links off to information pages about me (like a podcasting page, a subscribe page, a hire page, etc), but on that about page, I basically say “I suck at about pages, but here are some resources you can look over.” Now, I’ll get to work on a real about page.
