Add a Technorati Avatar to Promote Your Blog
Zen Bliss submitted the following reader quick tip (in fact this email from Zen Bliss inspired me to do this ‘reader quick tip series’):
Hi Darren. I read your site regularly – it’s a great resource for tips. Here’s one of my own, along the lines of getting more traffic to your blog.
It’s a very simple tip that will take mere seconds to implement, and can really benefit you in the long run. Ready for it? … upload an avatar to your Technorati profile. Many, many site authors who ping Technorati do not have an avatar. When a Technorati reader is scanning through pages of blog headlines, the avatars are so few and far between that the blog posts that are accompanied by them really jump out at you.
PS from Darren: I think this is a good simple tip that I’ve found to work also. I know when I added an icon to my Technorati account that I noticed a jump in visitors from the site. Nice one Zen Bliss.

I will vouch for this one – I’ve experienced it myself. Of course, needless to say, make your avatar fit with the image you are trying to put forward. I have seen some very professional blogs with silly looking avatars, while at the same time I have seen total spamlogs with very nice, clean, professional-looking avatars. Guess which I clicked on instinctively.
Your avatar is going to be the first thing people use to create an impression of you in Technorati – therefore, take it seriously.

Great idea. I will implement it now.
It’s always nice to see people thinking out of the box.

Zen Bliss and Darren
Thanks for the tip here.
I have seen bloggers posting Avatar (image) in forums. They are usually the ones I click on too as well because of the Avatar attached,
By the way – how do we create Avatar and where do I find Avatar?

I have had an avatar with technorati for ages, but I have not seen any extra traffic from them. I ping them regularly, and, in fact, have not seen a single visitor that has come from one of their searches!

I think Technorati is dead no matter what you search , you always end up with MySPace pages on top of the result search.

Is it possible to have a custom avidar designed? Being blind, I wouldn’t be very good at designing one, and I think implementing this tip would be helpful.

If anything ever “jumps” on Technorati, I’ve yet to see it. Technorati is dog-slow most of the time – why on earth would anyone ever search there? Especially now that Google has Blog Search..

Is Avatar = to Picture? Or is this something else, I am not seeing? Technorati is not letting up upload a pic right now either.

I’m having trouble uploading pics with Technorati as well. In fact, every time I use Technorati, there seems to be something wrong with it.
I’ve seen many blogs that have several hundred other blogs that link to them on Technorati, yet the blog itself has extremely poor Google PR and Alexa ranking. Do you have any tips on how I can get more blogs to link to me on Technorati?
