How to Generate High Quantities of Content for Your Blog

200610242119This post is part of a series of posts that I’m writing while on a short vacation that highlights a few posts from this blog’s thousands of posts in the archives.

Another series of posts that I wrote back in my early days was titled Generating High Quantities of Content.

I started the series of 7 posts with the following statement:

“Do you want to generate good traffic on your blog and therefore give yourself a chance at earning an income from it? Quality Content is a good first step – but it is not enough – you need to work on Quantity also.”

One of the criticisms that this series received from readers was that I was saying Quantity was more important than Quality of posts – of course this was not the case. I am totally in favor of bloggers working on post quality (and have written many tips on this) however – I still think that some bloggers could improve their blogs by upping the quantity of posts.

I probably have mellowed a little since writing this series in 2004 (from memory I was posting between 10 posts a day back then – and increased it to 20-30 posts per day over the next few months) but I’m still a big believer in regular posts (Quality and Quantity).

    This is good food for thought. I’m just getting started in the world of online marketing, and I recently put up a sales page that I want to get traffic to. But I don’t have a blog at this point. Instead I’ve been using James Brausch’s Artemis Pro software (found at http://www.artemispro.com).

    What I’m wondering: is that technique (sending unique articles to hundreds of online publishers) comparable to the quantity blog technique you are talking about here? Or would you say it is important to do big time blogging as well… or instead?

    Trying to learn all I can and make a go of this thing. Thanks for your qualtiy blog!

    Very good read, thanks for that. I learned alot. I am having a herd time coming up with 1-2 posts a day, I keep getting writers block. I am currently reading your posts on that now, thanks for all the advice, much of what I have learned so far has been from this site.

    I have a few blogs and writing one or two entries per blog a day on each is challenging enough. I don’t see how you do it.

    How to annoy users and make them curse the day you were born:
    1. Split up articles into many small sections each on its own page.
    2. Put huge ads on each one of those pages.

    This website is a great example of hideous user experience. The advertisements mingling within the content of the so-called post make it very challenging to read. This is basically just a link-farm/Google gaming site with no relevance to anything but the blogger’s bank account.

    Scott, I’d highly recommend you take a look through the archives of this site. I think Darren said recently that he has 3000 posts here (correct me if I’m wrong when you get back from your holiday Darren).

    I’ve been a long time reader and have learned so much from this blog about blogging. Darren has never claimed to be a designer or technical person but he’s a humble yet knowledgable expert on the topic of blogging and from what I can tell goes the extra mile for people in teaching them how to blog.

    While you are right that there is a lot of ‘snake oil’ around in the ‘make money online’ space, I have not found this blog to be anything but helpful. Just my experience and I think it is probably what others thing also.

    I am having so much fun blogging, and feel like you are my bloging coach, whether you know it or not, and despite the fact I don’t pay you for your services!

    I work full time. I have so many blogging ideas, and so little time. Because it is so much fun, I do find time to do it, though.

    Scott – I completely agree with everything Brent said. If you don’t like Problogger, go somewhere else – less competition for the rest of us who do use Darren’s advice and benefit greatly from it.

    Thanks for posting from the archives while you are gone, Darren. I appreciate seeing all the things I missed when I wasn’t blogging yet!
