hmmm! nice post! I used to get backlinks by covering some enthusiastic event live. For example a blogger meet up is what every blogger wants to attend and tell others that they should also attend. They tell people that if they are unable to attend they might catch it live at my blog. Thus I get many backlinks before the event starts :)

Excellent post. With my blog, I think its about creating community. If you put forth activities that create community (whether they be contests, giveaways, awards, regular features, interesting and interactive posts, etc), readers will come. They’ll stay, then they’ll eventually link — bc they love your blog — they feel like they have part ownership in it!

That’s always works for me — that along with writing good content. Whether the content of your blog be interesting, fun or humerous, or whether it provides answers to your readers’ questions, provides something else useful, or is just plain cool — make the content something readers will want to come back and get more of, and even link to a particular post or your whole blog.

Great post with sensible tips. I’ve had some small success with my blog by focussing on content and network. Now I’ll start learning and applying the other methods.

But I have to say that ‘viral marketing’ and ‘linkbaiting’ both sound somehow sleezy.
