ProBlogger Demographics – MSN adCenter Style

Posted By Darren Rowse 27th of June 2006 Pro Blogging News 0 Comments

MSN’s AdCenter predicts that 60% of ProBlogger’s readers are male with the biggest readership in the ‘under 18 years of age’ range.

Hmmmm – the gender one might be right (my gender poll found that 72% of readers were male) but the age range has got to be out. I do know of a number of teen readers but from what I know they are in the minority.

  1. Interesting tool, though it predicts just about all my websites having mostly a female demographic. Even my technology site had something like 60-40 in favor of women. My only site that came out in favore of males was a strictly gaming website, but even then it was only 65-35 when I thought it would be more like 85-15.

I’m not sure how accurate the tool is, but if it is accurate, it definitely gives me something to think about.

  2. For some reason, AdCenter thinks *all* (100%) of my readers are female.

    Very strange.

  3. Cool tool. My blog has mostly male readers.

  4. Maybe they were counting me as 3 teenagers :) …my wife would probably say that’s about right!

  5. Perhaps many of your older readers are already into their second childhood :)

  6. The small print at the bottom of the page says, “The statistics on this page are based on undisclosed size of sample data and are for proof of concept only. Actual results may vary.”

Am I right in thinking that when translated from Microsoft-ese to English this means, “We made the numbers up and are only kidding”?

  7. I think this is dodgy to say the least. Putting or local newspapers into it, The Age (a broadsheet) came up as a site for under 18s, putting The Herald-Sun (a tabloid) in, it came up as for over 24-35 year olds.

  8. […] I saw this on ProBlogger and thought it was very cool. Microsoft has a proof of concept site here where you can enter in a query or a URL and it will predict the gender and age breakdowns of likely readers/searchers. […]

  9. well may i know after when did u started blogging n how much do u earn per day n i really like your blog

  10. I ran this against a currently tiny blog that I am planning to build up. Virtually every word on the site is oriented toward retirement. The tool claims most of my readers are teens and mid-twenties. Either I’m wrong about how interesting retirement issues are to the iPod set (when i was twenty I couldn’t spell retirement. let alone read about it) or MSN’s data is seriously skewed.

It also apparently could not process a more substantial sized blog … perhaps becuase it’s in a sud domain folder?

Not too impressive of atool at this stage.

  11. […] Att ta siffrorna som ett sanningens facit kanske man inte skall göra. Ta dem som en indikerande siffra med en nypa salt som ProBlogger gör. […]

  12. I wonder if that’s any way near accurate haha I tried it for my blog and the numbers are close to Darren’s… really strange

  13. […] – Find out what Microsoft adCenter Labs thinks your website gender distribution is like. Darren has 60% men and Duncan has 92% women. Looks like we men have a slight edge here according to adCenter Labs: […]

  14. […] Bisher keine Kommentare […]

  15. Well, Darren…at least I’m a male below 18…Lolz

  16. Well, you have one 19 year old reader here.
