I agree with point about aesthetics. I’ve seen some really quite glaring image ads from adsense, and also some that are very badly designed. One of the huge advantages of adsense textual ads is that they are just that – textual – and you don’t have to worry about how they look, because they all look the same more or less.

I actually had a couple of advertisers targeting my site last month for an ad campaign. The CPM ads can bring in a nice little boost to you sites earnings.

Finally we hear an official word on the CPM urban legends.
I have been thinking for a while to convert one of my text ads to an image ad, and I guess I will do so when traffic becomes more consistent.
