Blog Herald For Sale – Take 2

Posted By Darren Rowse 7th of February 2006 Pro Blogging News 0 Comments

Those of you who don’t read Blog Herald might have missed the news that the previous sale of that blog fell through in the last week. As a result they’ve started an auction process over at SitePoint Forums.

Last time I checked the bidding had risen to $19,000 – still a long way to go to the previous sale price of $72,000 but not bad for only being live for a few hours.

There is no specific end date to the auction yet because Jeremy (who is brokering the deal) will be away for a few days (but it looks like being a week long auction unless there is an agreement with a bidder made in the mean time which is often the case in these things).

  1. Yeah, I’ve been watching it since he posted it. First time I looked, it was 5k. I blinked, then it was 19k. I think this one will sell pretty well, especially for a site that makes 2k monthly revenue.

  2. Shame it fell thru – hopefully, it can sell for close to that amount at SitePoint.

I wonder if Jeremy or Duncan would be willing to let us know the reasons – just that we’re pretty much in a new era of selling blogs, so every bit of knowledge helps.

btw, I’m testing the coComment beta service with this comment – so far I’m loving it.

  4. That’s too bad. I really enjoy reading the Blog Herald. I hope the new owner will still blog about blogging news.

  5. I see theres a BIN of $50,000 so it wont reach the previous offer of $72,000. Personally, i would have set the BIN at $80,000.

  7. Ridiculous! My blog gets 4-5 times more traffic and I know it would never sell for that much. Whoever ends up with the blog herald is on crack.

  8. Bee – it’s not only the traffic that counts – it’s the income from advertising that is also important.

So don’t feel bad if you’re not making that sort of money from your blog ;)

  9. I’m only a little bit surprised it fell through, taking over a blog like that is a huge undertaking.

  10. I agree Peter. I would be all over it except for the fact of the time involved. Definitely a HUGE undertaking.

  11. Bee, your blog gets 3 to 4 million page views per month and it’s not worth $50,000? What’s your URL?

  12. 70.000 for something that says:
    “Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at 70.85.236.226.” ?

That’s quite a sale….. BTW Darren you have a little problem with your sql too: “Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Too many connections in /home/b5media/public_html/blogroll/index.php on line 3
    Could not connect to mysql”
