Length of Blogging – Poll Results

Posted By Darren Rowse 31st of January 2006 Pro Blogging News 0 Comments

Last week’s Poll asked readers to share how long they’ve been blogging for and the results are now in.

The spread was actually quite wide with good percentages of the total vote of 910 participants polling in each area. The largest group were in the ‘under 3 months’ segment with the second biggest group being those currently not blogging.

While I’ve noticed quite a few bloggers with limited experience lately these larger numbers at the lower spectrum of experience are actually quite surprising to me with 60% of readers having less than a year of blogging under their belts.

Of course this means that 40% of readers of ProBlogger have good experience levels with 12% above 3 years.

  3. Actually I think this distribution makes sense. The people who need this site most are probably those in the first 6 months of blogging. With many sites I find that once I’ve soaked up the bulk of the information, I return less and less often for the updates.

This site is the exception for me in that I’m still reading it after a year. The reason being that while I perhaps know most of what you’re going to say at this point you do seem to keep coming up with something new to add to the mix.

  4. i think problogger site is the useful site.

  5. Awsome choice of graph colors.

This might be a silly question, but why would so many people who don’t blog read problogger?

  6. Odd isn’t it Veridicus.

I suspect it’s because I rank reasonably well in Google for a lot of terms that new bloggers or people investigating blogging would be looking for.

  7. […] a. This is my story and this is what I’ve learnt – When I did a poll a couple of months on how long readers of this site had been blogging I found that 12% of you have been blogging for 3 years or more. I also found in another poll that while not in the majority, there are actually quite a few readers of PB that make a good living from blogging. This type of story is an opportunity for you to share your story and give a few lessons and home truths from your experience. Hopefully in doing so you can teach the rest of us a thing or two and highlight your own blog a little in the process. I won’t prescribe what you should include in these stories – but here’s a few suggestions: […]
