Three simple actions that doubled my website traffic in 30 days
The following post on how to increase website traffic was submitted by Adrian W Kingsley-Hughes.
Get more tips on increasing website and blog traffic by subscribing to our RSS Feed.
I started the PC Doctor blog in May of 2005 and for the first few months my traffic was really low – down in the few hundreds of visitors a day. It was pretty depressing I can tell you and there were times when I thought about quitting. I knew that the site was in the Google ’sandbox’ and so I either had to keep on plugging at it until it was out or I had to give up.
Fortunately, I decided to keep on posting but in the interim I decided that I was also going to do my utmost to drive traffic to my site manually until Google kicked in. I took a look around at what some of the successful blogs were doing and came up with three tactics that helped to double my website traffic in a month.
- First, I made the most of Technorati tags. I tagged every key word in each of my posts. Initially I did this manually but them I discovered a WordPress plugin called SimpleTags that made the job a whole lot easier. I found that by tagging my post effectively they were getting a lot more attention then their untagged counterparts, and as an added advantage I was getting focused, quality traffic to the site!
- I leveraged my existing website. I’ve been running my business website for a few years and that was getting modest levels of traffic that was relevant to my blog – so why not try to drive some of that to my new blog! I placed a few FeedBurner headline animator blocks on some of my most popular pages and after a day or so I noticed a significant increase in traffic for 5 minutes worth of work on my part.
- Finally, I made effective use of trackback links to popular sites. If I commented on a post on another site I would make sure that I set up the appropriate trackback for it. The results from this are varied depending on the site and post that you are linking to but since I liked to comment and interact with the wider blogosphere anyway, it was free traffic!
Using these three simple techniques, I took The PC Doctor blog from a few hundred hits a day into the thousands in less than 30 days. This kept my interest in the site until it came out of the Google sandbox and I started to receiver some serious traffic. However, I’m convinced that these actions I took at the early stages have helped me create a loyal and targeted readership that continues to benefit my blog today.

How do you “tag” words in posts? (My blog is on Typepad, so don’t think I can install any plug-ins.)

The reason I don’t like tagging very much is that visitors when they finish reading your posts click on the technorati tags instead of Adsense, Amazon link or whatever money making links you have.

How do you do trackbacks? I see those, but don’t understand them.

Normally, a blog will list their trackback somewhere near the end of a post. You can (usually) copy and past the URL of the trackback into your post editor. In WordPress, when you create a new post, there is a field to include a trackback URL. Just paste it in there.

Louis, you don’t have to display Technorati tags. I don’t. They are only in my feeds, where pretty much only Technorati sees them.

Louis: can’t you then hide the DIV with tags using CSS? Is this acceptable by Technorati and other tag search engines?

Some very sound advice. I’m still having troubles getting my head around trackbacks though. I gather that when you write a post relating to an article on another blog, you can insert a trackback to it.

Annoyingly Cheerful » Technorati Tags Plugin Plug
December 30th, 2005 11:21 am
[...] I discovered a wonderful plugin over at ProBlogger. It’s called SimpleTags, and it’s making my life a whole lot easier. Up until now, I’ve been typing the html for each Technorati tag in by hand, which meant that I wasn’t adding all that many tags, since I am very lazy. And if you don’t tag, nobody except your regular subscribers will have any idea you said anything. Now I can tag practically every word in a post with almost no effort. Thank you, Broobles! [...]

I also appreciate the tips and look forward to trying at least one, starting with the Technorati tags. I’ve had problems understanding how to include them on my site, but I’ll give it a try this weekend.

I congratulate you for having such a successful blog! Not only are your links better than some of the random ones generated in Google Searches, but your tips actually work, compared to the other “optimization” sites that have 3 Adsense blocks and a couple of sentences repeating google’s tips.

At the moment I’m using a heavily modified version of the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin. It’s heavily modified because UTW doesn’t support Atom feeds, and Technorati prefers Atom feeds.
I’ve been meaning to get around to writing a simple tag plugin that doesn’t have every feature but the kitchen sink, and just plain does its job, but I’ve been so busy blogging… :)

Hi. Those that wanna use technorati tag and make it invisble, all you have to do is delete part of the code in the simpletags.php file. I did it to my site http://hyipfarm.com .
The tags are invisible now and technorati can still detect them.
You have to delete 3 stuff
Step1
In the simpletags.php file find
$pre_replacement = ‘Technorati Tags: ‘;
and change it to
$pre_replacement = ‘ ‘;
Step 2
Find . trim($ttags[$i]) .
delete it.
Step 3
Find . $ttags[$i] .
delete it.
Enjoy! No more worry that people will go away from your site from clicking those tags.

The categories of Wordpress are the same as tags for Technorati. So if you post them under the right categories, Technorati will pick them up correctly.
Marco Raaphorst
December 31st, 2005 2:02 am
forgot to mention on thing:
- you need to open an account for Technorati
- make sure Technorati is pinged after posting, use for posting: http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
no plugins are really needed to trigger Technorati other than the standard functionality of Wordpress.
Holly Ward
December 31st, 2005 6:30 am
While you might not “need” a plugin to trigger Technorati, in Wordpress, by default, the only tags applied to an article are the pre-defined “categories” that you check off when you post it. Now you could go in and add a category corresponding to each of the tags you feel an article might merit, but I think that’s a lot of work, and then you have this huge categories list that would quickly become rather unwieldy.
Take the blog post I wrote about this post. One of the tags I applied to it (using this very plugin, in fact ), was “ProBlogger”. Now I thought that was very relevant for this one post. But am I ever going to tag another post “ProBlogger”? I suppose it’s possible, but I certainly wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of setting up a category called “ProBlogger”. Plus then “ProBlogger” would have shown up in the list of Categories in my sidebar, which might have looked a little strange. I could type in the html by hand, of course, and that was what I was doing before I found this plugin, but I notice that I didn’t add as many tags per post, again because I am lazy. I might not “need” this plugin, but I”m certainly finding it very useful.
Marco Raaphorst
December 31st, 2005 6:48 am
Yes, Holly Ward you are right. If you want to add tags you probably never need again again, such a plugin works better. And I do believe that plugin is great.

[...] I’ve really been trying to keep things a little more positive here but every so often something gets under my skin and I gotta call a spade a spade. I’ll start off by saying I’m a regular reader of Darren Rowse’s Problogger and I respect and value his work there. Darren’s on vacation and having some guest bloggers write columns for him. Yesterday I noticed this post Three simple actions that doubled my website traffic in 30 days. After reading it I wrinkled my nose a bit but let it slide. Later I noticed it had made it’s way to digg and was tagged by people in Del.icio.us and to be honest the way people were tripping over themselves to fawn over this was actually completly ridiculous. To prove my point lets take a look at the three suggestions: [...]

Ok, so I love the tagging, but I tried the trick so that the tags don’t show up (I’m not worried about people following links to leave my site, but I don’t like the visible clutter) and it just flat out did not work.
Anyone got any other suggestions?
Dmitry Chestnykh
December 31st, 2005 10:15 am
TEX: You can hide it with CSS. Wrap your tags in <DIVgt; with id, for example…
<div id=”tags”>….</div>
then add style for tags to your CSS file:
#tags { display: none; }

You might want to add a little disclaimer to your title – sort of a your mileage may vary kind of thing.
I’ve been “tagging” or adding keywords or categorizing my sites for ages – little if any traffic ever comes from technorati and technorati seldom shows accurate activity on any of my blogs.
While you may have had great success due to the topics you cover obviously not everyone will have the same success.

In response to Dawn’s question:
There is a WordPress Trackback Tutorial (could be helpful for other blogging platforms, but geared toward WordPress users).
I also have to agree with Clark – mileage may vary. There have been many complaints on Technorati not properly indexing sites or displaying accurate links.
While I can’t say I have any complaints about Technorati, I have noticed that some sites receive quite a bit of traffic from them while others seem to be missing completely.
And, for those who want to make their technorati tags disappear, wrap them in a specific <div> element and apply a bit of CSS ingenuity.
example:
<div class=”tech-tags”>Add Technorati Tags</div>
in CSS file:
.tech-tags {display: none;}
Hope that helps someone out :)

I am the web designer for a property company based in Bangkok. At the beginning of the year I implemented the strategy you so rightly put forward above, using WordPress and including the Technorati tags. The site now has five times the number of hits! I would like to thank you for the advice given. It has been so successful I have also implemented a similar programme for a consultancy company in the UK who outsource all of their their SEO work to us. Their site was only put live yesterday so I cannot gauge its success as yet, but we are both highly confident that this is the way to deliver SEO strategies to our clients. We have abandoned our link building strategies since the Jagger update and now concentrate on content augmentation and article writing, with great results. Once again, thanks.

[...]  What do I do now? So you’ve been inspired to start a blog, you believe the ROI messages from Part 2, Part 3 has helped you choose a platform, but now what? This section gives you some guidance on the key things you need to do to make this a success, and points you to plenty of resources that will help. First, you’ve got to get the purpose of this new blog clear in your mind. You might be selling something specific, or you might be taking an indirect approach and promoting your expertise in a particular area so that potential clients like what they hear, want to work with you and check out your company. You might be sharing expertise around your organisation, or you might be using the medium to connect directly with your customers. Whichever it is, get that vision clear in your mind. Next, give the blog a theme. It might include your musings and rants, but give it an identity around something that you’re passionate about. There is an enormous amount of content out there, and you need to make yours worthy of people’s attention. That will happen if yours gets mixed with your enthusiasm and passion. Get a domain name of your own. Blogger and TypePad domain names are OK, but you wouldn’t start your company site on Geocities would you? In any case, you will almost certainly want to switch platforms at some point, and this will be easier if you’ve got your own address. Get in to the habit of writing and set aside some time every day, or week. If you want your site to get noticed, you need to feed it, so it can feed the audience and the their news aggregators. Cross post and comment on as many sites as you can. Make sure your site is easy to access, with RSS feeds, Atom, or a subscription option, or all of these. Have a blogroll of blogs you read and people you like. There is an interesting rule in blogging – the more you send them away, the more they’ll come back. So the more you connect with other bloggers, the more they’ll connect with you, and that will improve your ranking. And the topic that seems to be missed by so many bloggers – apply the rules of Search Engine Optimisation. In simple terms you want to get noticed by the search engines. That is more likely to happen if your blog titles aren’t esoteric or clever, but say what the topic is about with the appropriate keywords. Your post should have those key words peppered around in prominent places. That, combined with the links you’ll manage to get from those other bloggers who are wiser and more popular than you will enhance your page rank in Google, and bring more traffic to your site. The good news is that there are plenty of advisers out there to help you. Here are some: Dennis Howlett’s take on the do’s and don’ts for an accounting practice. Darren Rowse is the problogger from Australia. He writes half a dozen successful blogs, and has plenty of advice for the more directly commercial blogger.  Here’s a selection from him: 18 Lessons I’ve Learnt about Blogging Three simple actions that doubled my website traffic in 30 days Social Bookmarking – Getting your Blog Noticed Search Engine Optimization Articles and Resources  Take a look at Aaron Brazzell’s “The Blogger’s Primer“. Tags definatly seem hard to grasp, least the part about where to put them on the page. I have 3 questions then;
1. Is it better to have one word tags or is 2 words acceptible
2. Does the tag have to appear in the RSS feed?
3. Does it affect you to have tags that do NOT point to technorati? Like for example, a tag that points to your own categories on your blog (using the rel=”tag”)?

Like I stated before: categories in WordPress are exactly the same as tags. Technorati has updated their information about this recently:
http://www.technorati.com/help/tags.html
In Wordpress 2 it’s possible to add categories on the fly while creating a new post. I think this is a better system than any plugin I have seen. Because categories can not be redundant and can be renamed, it’s cleaner than specifying tags per post.
I don’t understand the confusion myself but it’s probably because categories and tags are different words :)

Yes, Technorati will use the category name as a tag in WordPress, but tags and categories are two different things.
What happens when you only create a single entry on a specific subject? Or if your entry covers a number of subjects that may not warrant having a completely new category created (on the fly or otherwise) for it?
Think of tags as meta filing without needing to clutter your sidebar with unnecessary categories.
Lorelle has a nice run down of what the difference between tags and categories are for anyone interested.

I would like to thank the author. Of all the advice I have read this is the most valuable to me.
I came in late for the FIFA World Cup only updating my site a week before the events with almost me as the visitor. I followed these three steps and I ended up the month of june with an average of around 500 – 600 readers and some it even went up to 1500 depending on which post I trackback to.
Cool man… I have read this post way way back but only got the time to put the plugin, find sites that have great traffic to trackback to.
Come to think of it, I have not done the feedburner tip yet coz I only signed up a week ago for that service and I will hook up in one of my decent traffic sites and I would expect more readers coming in.
Thank you so much…

I thank the author for his wonderful timely advice.I had almost given up hope on my blog http://freakyvids.blogspot.com after having worked hard on it for months.
This site is an entertainment video blog (vlog) which is still a somewhat new idea. Still I was hardly getting an odd 300 page views a month. After having implemented some of the three steps, my traffic has gone up to nearly 500% in 3 weeks!
Thanks a lot again.

I’ve been running a quality article based content management site for about a year now and regretfully my pagerank, and traffic, remains at fairly low levels. I could understand this if the site was sub standard but it’s not bad – at least from a search engine perspective. Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Darren’s site is always useful & informative. I hadnt thought of adding tags to help improve website traffic. Decent tips but the advice to hide the tags with display none seems shady and unimportant, just div position absoulte and locate the tags to the side or in the footer section for each post, nobody will click off your site as they are away from the article and not tempting to click and not hidden with shady display none.

Tips #1 and #3 are fine, but I just don’t see how they can possibly substantially increase traffic if you don’t have much to start with. I think tip #2 is the real deal, but if you don’t have another sucessful web site to leverage, I guess you’re screwed.
I’ve been running a blog for about a month now, and I tried all the above (except leveraging another web site, since I don’t have one).
Right now, my traffic is so pitifully low its embarassing. Above you say you were depressed when your traffic was in the low hundreds. Imagine having far lower than that. What I want to know is, how did you start with that much traffic to begin with? I check everything every day in Google Analytics. Technorati brings in only 2-4 hits a day, sending trackbacks and leaving my sig when commenting on other sites (and if I really hustle) only brings in 6-12 hits or so. Search engines bring in about 10 hits a day.
And feedburner, atom, rss, etc. I admit I don’t understand all the differences fully yet, but doesn’t someone need to go to your site first before they’re going to subscribe to your feed? In any case, no one has signed up for mine yet as far as I can tell.
I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on my site, but few people find it. (About 50% of my traffic is direct) I even tried Ad words and Blog ads, and they worked, but only while the ads were running, and in the end I was spending about 1 dollar in advertising for every 4 hits I was bringing in, not a great ratio. And since my site is not commercial, I’m not going to spend a huge amount on advertising. I tried everything else, announcing the site to friends and family, leaving my sig when commenting in google groups, registering with every search engine service, using Digg and Reddit, exchanging links with others, etc. If anyone has any other suggestions, I’m all ears. Help!

There are many advantages of your web blog above a website, except it’s easy to setup and free. You can put every thing in your blog: from a couple of lines what it is on your mind or your new article just published elsewhere, or a product review. In principle, a blog is the same as a website, but you will need to update more frequently to get the visitors to your site. A major advantage of your web blog here above a website to getting major search engines like Google and Yahoo to visit your blog frequently is a technique called “pinging”. It’s a method of notifying all of the major search engines and blog directories, each time that you have updated your blog. The search engines will come and to take a look at your blog, thereby increasing traffic to your blog. If you link your blog, the search engines will follow the links from the blog pointing to your sites. This will help the search engine rankings of your sites as well!

Take a look at a new approach to boost web site traffic: http://www.jointeffort.com. In essence, this is incorporating a large social community application onto your web site. Joint Effort is a complete turnkey solution that allows partner sites to instantly create an active online social community on their own web resources under their own branding, link it to an existing database of users, and thus increase their web site traffic and profits. Visitors of your site receive an additional reason to return again and again: to socialize via the social network, and therefore they will spend more time on your site, not to mention inviting their friends and new friends they have made.

January 2nd, 2008 8:44 am
Hi, thanks for the tips. I agree that technorati tags seem to work great. I find that they help my posts rank much higher on google search terms. However, one problem that I have with my blog is that I get some decent traffic (for me lol) when I post every day. However, if I take a week off posting, my traffic plummits rapidly. I also notice that my new posts get a ton of google search hits for a few days, then completely stop driving traffic after that. My blog is about dietary supplements, so it’s not as common of a topic as your blog, of course. http://jmorrow50.wordpress.com.

I say that because often I have seen if I link to an article using it’s permalink then there is no trackback (or pingback) listed for it and vice versa…then again maybe it’s all the same and I just stay busy confusing myself.

I’m going to take your advice and see if it helps. I have been using Google adwords and Yahoo search marketing to advertise my site http://www.collegecreditbuilder.com and have found that the keyword traffic is very expensive, but results in actual click-throughs, whereas the content match feature can burn through you daily budget with many clicks, but no actual click-throughs. I know there are click-fraud lawsuits pending and approaching settlement, but it seems like something is still not right.

kipas lipas,
There are many way to make backlinks. One is to post good quality content and people will naturally link to your blog due to the content on it. Another way is to find people with similar interests and suggest they link to your sight do add more depth to their site.
Others use more questionable tactics such as adding a link to their own site such as, Melissa Midwestinto comments. Take a look at these comments there are links all over. However, while most people think they are getting a nice linkback from a PR4 site here, they fail to read the source code and notice the nofollow attribute tag added, which means they get no linkback.
I suggest you read up a lot more on linking and you will be able to drive SE traffic to your site better.

I am just starting out in the blogosphere and I’m slowing gaining more ands more unique visits a day. I’ll be sure to employ these tips as soon as I can and see if they have a positive effect.
I have a few questions for everyone: What is a realistic daily/monthly goal for a new blog? What is a realistic rate of growth?
I know that each genre of blog has different averages, but any generalization to give me an idea as to whether I am moving in the right direction would be great.
Thanks,

THANKS for the tips. My original (and favorite) blog is from the old version of Blogger.com. Unfortunately, I can’t add any text or tags to the beginning of the blog without making it invisible. Otherwise, it messes up the layout. Two questions:
1) How would you (or anyone reading this post) suggest I add tags, etc to a blogspot.com blog?
2) If they cannot be added, what other blog service would you suggest? Can I “move” my blog from blogspot.com to another site? I don’t want to lose the content I have posted over 3 yrs.

The fact that there’s feedback nearly three years after the original post shows that the article’s still good and relevant! I’ve just created a completely new website about cool things to do on visiting London – http://www.morethanoxfordstreet.com
It’s so new that it’s not even googable or yahooable yet, but I’m keen to get visitors already

there’s lot of ways to attract traffic to your site. one is word of mouth, another one is to have a A well known blogger talk about your site on there blog. but im not worried about traffic i know mine will do well, once i get it going. but my problem is mapping a domain name. im tired of all the youtube videos. i have watched.. then when you send them a message. they dont get back to you, its more like look what i can do, not so often you get some one trying to help
and i know people are busy……. im just frustrated

Richie,
Everything you need to know about technorati tags and trackbaks can be found either here on Problogger, or, by searching the terms on your favorite search engine.
One thing you’ll find out quickly is that there is no free meal on the internet. You’re going to have to learn to read the advice / suggestions people give you, and then take some serious time to research and develop your own plan based on their advice.
I notice you posted your affiliate link at the end of your comment. It’s quite ok to have and state an opinion opposite of Darren’s, but if you really want to generate traffic to your website you better provide some useful and interesting, Subjective reasoning and data to back it up.
Another thing you will find out quickly is that most of the “systems” you buy online for generating cash only generate cash for the owner of the system. Very few of these programs have any intrinsic value; IE the product is designed to sell itself, and doesn’t do much else. However, blogs, and this blog in particular are legitimate businesses. Problogger happens to be a relationship building business more than a commercial money maker (although it does make some money I’m certain), but Darren also has other blogs that are very commercial in nature. Both are legit business models, and I think you’d be better served learning how to recreate and adapt these models in order to make money than by pushing an internet “cash flow” system.

I also try to put another tag after the main title of the post (then end of main tittle seperated by ” | ” ). it also drive a good related google adsense add (if you registered as an adsense members). Of course It depend on the contain and theme of your blog. And dont forget to submit or register your link to the submit link expl. google add url, astalavista, or yahoo add url.

Choosing a “trackback” works best if your “key Word” is related to your blog. If your selling a product or service the “key word” orterm used for trackback or back link, will yield you best results and return on your investment if it is related to your product. For example if you sell hats don’t use “truck Tires” as your key word.
Hope that helps

Understand that not all tags are going to be “follow”, and, do make sure sure the topic is related to your service or niche. Not that the link is bad, but if the niches are one in the same it “should” show more relivance to your landing site.
Best of luck, and keep it direct and inviting

The whole trying to “create” traffic to my website is frustrating!!
After all, the reason we all have created websites is to create more business, right? However, as a new website, we’re all tossed into the google sandbox until such time that the google gods see it fit that they pull us out. During this time in the box, I suppose one could attempt to create link exchanges with relevant sites, just make sure you don’t exchange with a site that’s considered a “bad neighbor” or your link will count against you (does anybody know how to verify if a site has been classified as a “bad neighbor” by google?)
Don’t pay to have your link placed on a high page ranking site, ’cause if google finds out, you’ll never get out of “the box”.
I suppose one could purchase traffic, but how do you know which sites are respectable. Or maybe more importantly, how do you know that the traffic that is being sent is even interested in what you’re offering – what if only 3 out of every 100 sent to your site could even care less?
So, the way I see it is, as far as google is concerned and right now they are the King, we all will start recieving additional unsolicited traffic when google allows it – or not.
In any case, I’ll give these ideas a shot, hopefully I’ll get a little boost once I’m let out of the box

I found the above post informative and helpful in my hardwork of driving a good traffic to my blog(http://freebiztraffic-arsenal.blogspot.com).

Please let me know what it is all about and how I should get started? Thanks!

please add on your LIST the following way:
Every webmasters and blogger needs to control, hence increase his web traffic.Live Web stats provides the traffic of your site, a variety of statistics and analytics to help webmasters analyse their traffic. Web Stats provides a wide range of choices on what to display on your Webpage or blog.
• Countries Visitors
• Your Basic statistics
• Online visitos
• All the Above or any combination of the above (Horizontal or Vertical )
• A Small image icon
• A Configurable hit counter (Select the font style, color , size, background color)
You can change the display on your page any time you wish, fast and easy.
Why do webmasters and bloggers have to track their visitors? Tracking the visitors is an essential part of any online business. Learn how many visitors you are getting and have the statistics tracking capability.
But, you want to know even more about your visitors and their behavior, such as:
• How many visitors come to your site?
• How many visitors per day do you have?
• Where are your visitors coming from?
• From which page did they come?
• What keywords did they search to find your site?
• What pages did they view? How long did they stay?
• How many visitors per week, per month?
• Which search engines did your visitors use to find your webpage?
All the above can be found in

It seems like 10% of bloggers (whoever the hell they are) somehow manage to get loads of traffic while everyone else jumps through all the hoops, reads everything about it they can find online, does the SEO stuff, voraciously looks for advice like it was a drug, works all day on it (and sometimes late into the night) month after month, joins and comments on other blogs in the hope that it will garner some interest, leave trackbacks, blah, blah, blah.
It is so absurdly difficult, that a small online cottage industry composed of thousands of websites exists dedicated to helping others find the holy grail of internet traffic.
If I spent this much time and effort discovering for a cure for the common cold, I feel sure that I would have found it by now. Of course, as soon as I finish typing this, I’ll go right back to it like a monkey searching for that mother load of bananas.
My name is Jim… and I’m a blogaholic.

So I read through it and I can’t help thinking I need a Problogger for Dummies guide so that I can understand half of everything I just read. I joined Technorati a while back but not sure if I need an account there to apply your technique. I don’t have a wordpress blog, so not sure if there is a tagging plugin for Blogger. As for the feedburner tip, unless you already have a site with modest traffic, then it’s moot! I tried many different techniques with my blog http://somebodyunfamous.blogspot.com but eventually came to the point like most other bloggers, that told me, “You’re spending waaaay too much time and making NOTHING from your efforts, time to move on. I hate to let anything I put so much work into die, so I try to create a post occasionally, but honestly, I think it’s on its last leg (it never really got on more than one probably anyway …).
Thanks anyway for the tips, and congratulations on all your success!

Great Post.
I really like the idea of track back links. I would really love to use them and I think they help you get a lot of traffic for free and it is fast traffic.
Darren I think that you should add some more information about track back links on your blog. It will be a really nice thing.

Hi Darren…I have installed simple tags but I see 3 options in my dashboard, that is, ‘manage tags’ ‘mass edit tags’ ‘auto tags’.. Now how do you use simple tags when posting. How do you use simple tags

I never tried technorati. Even on the community blogs, having your blogs posted with more number of related tags increases your article’s visibility and hence gets more traffic. Using few popular tags is very helpful.
Let me try technorati tags and see its effect.

I’ve submitted my post to technorati, but I didn’t get good traffics from there. My purpose to submit my post there is to increase backlinks to my single post, I’m not whether it’s helped but I just did it since I just took me minutes to submit. :)

I use blogger. Is there a good program out there to use for the trackback links. Looking though the comments I’m not sure if there is something better now than there was a few years ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thank you for what you do. I’m looking forward to the 31 day challenge.

I apply all three suggestions to a travel blog I write every day. Numbers still in the low 300s. It’s more to do with the stickiness of the subject rather than the quality of the article, in my opinion.

I’ve been frustrated when trying out traffic increasing tips. Almost always, it seems to be a case of “what works for someone else won’t work for you.” Then again, my site is not a blog but a browser game (and quite a niche one at that — a fantasy golems vs golems RPG game), so it’s possibly a case of trying the wrong tactics for the target audience.
How would you change your traffic generating tactics for something that isn’t a blog? Obviously Technorati is for blogs, but replacing that tip with something more appropriate to the site seems logical. In my case, that tip becomes “submit to top games sites.” If you were to update these tips, how would you generalize them to work effectively for more than just blogs?

That is some really good advice. I’ve never actually done much with Technorati, so it makes me think about what I’ve been missing out on. I also never do much with the “trackback” thing, so I’m guessing I’ve been neglecting some serious stuff here! :P Thanks for the post, it gives me some more things to look into now.

Vitiligo affects the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes by destroying cells that produce the body’s pigment. The most obvious results of this condition are white splotches in the areas where the skin isn’t producing enough pigment. This is not a serious condition, but research physicians are still investigating methods for correct diagnosis, treatments, co-existent diseases…..
Today’s the world is returning towards natural way of curing due to the harmful effects of today’s chemical & synthetic medicines. People are deeply worried on this issue and also insisting to use natural way of curing to get health & security.
Our Vitiligo cure process is 100% Natural / herbal.

Hello, thanks for this article. But has any one got any idea on how I can implement the 3 steps to my blogger blog? Nothing ever seems easy when dealing with blogger unlike wordpress and it’s vast amount of plugins. Saying that though, I am using free blogger with my own domain name so I thought about switching to wordpress, but realised that free wordpress is no better!
Maybe if I can get some decent traffic to my blog and make a little money from it, I can get some paid hosting!!!! whoops,,, I’m rambling about nothing again, sorry!!! ;-)

Thanks Adrian! There is some great information in all these replies too.
I really enjoy the challenge of not only proactively seeking traffic but chasing my new blogs up the search engine rankings. I find this to be my greatest motivator when things seem slow.
My next venture is going to be starting two similar blogs in the same niche and race them both to the highest ranking possible inside 30 days. Should be fun while a learning experience at the same time.
All the best,

I believe that the most important factor to realize a constant traffic is to let the users to recycle the website, meaning that some articles are just enough to read once, therefore you need to put articles or set things up so that people can re use them every single time they visit your website. Something like this will work properly I think: http://www.dictipedie.com/

The best thing about building a high-traffic site is that once it is built, it can continue to produce revenues for years to come. A lot of hard work is definitely involved, but once it’s done, it’s easy to see what an amazing investment all that time and effort really was.

This article had some very interesting tips. I will be trying these tips in the future. One of the best ways to build up traffic is to understand how niche marketing works to cut through all the big name websites and build targeted traffic. Also building up your link popularity will help you get out of the Google Sand Box.
