The following post on tips for writing a blog was submitted by Lyndon from Flockblog who in his email to me with it described it as a simple ‘back to basics’ kind of post. Thanks Lyndon.

Here are ten tips that help me with my blog writing.

  1. Make your opinion known
  2. Link like crazy
  3. Write less
  4. 250 Words is enough
  5. Make Headlines snappy
  6. Write with passion
  7. Include Bullet point lists
  8. Edit your post
  9. Make your posts easy to scan
  10. Be consistent with your style
  11. Litter the post with keywords

1. Make your opinion known
People like blogs, they like blogs because they are written by people and not corporations. People want to know what people think, crazy as it sounds they want to know what you think. Tell them exactly what you think using the least amount of words possible.

2. Link like crazy.
Support your post with links to other web pages that are contextual to your post.

3. Write Less
Give the maximum amount of information with the least amount of words. Time is finite and people are infinitely busy. Blast your knowledge into the reader at the speed of sound.

4. 250 is enough
A long post is easier to forget and harder to get into. A short post is the opposite.

5. Make Headlines snappy
Contain your whole argument in your headline. Check out National newspapers to see how they do it.

6. Include bullet point lists
We all love lists, it structures the info in an easily digestible format.

7. Make your posts easy to scan
Every few paragraphs insert a sub heading. Make sentences and headlines short and to the point.

8. Be consistent with your style
People like to know what to expect, once you have settled on a style for your audience stick to it.

9. Litter the post with Keywords.
Think about what keywords people would use to search for your post and include them in the body text and headers. make sure the keyword placement is natural and does not seem out of place.

10. Edit your post
Good writing is in the editing. Before you hit the submit button, re-read your post and cut out the stuff that you don’t need.

I hope you enjoyed my tips for writing a blog post – feel free to share your own blog writing tips below.

These ten points are very helpful for me in writing my comments on various sites. It can also be helpful in article writing. Those who kept on writing long comments most of the viewers neglect them.

This is indeed a helpful post especially to those people who are planning to have their own blog, just like me. I usually read blogs that have “catchy” titles and just scan with the content. I’m practicing how to “write” blogs using this tips so that I can have my own content rather than choosing to buy essay and other content online.

  30. I just read something somewhere “out there” that indicates that throwing out any old blog post, something of dubious quality, is actually very detrimental to one’s brand. So, if one is trying to become recognized as an authority, it is important to write quality posts.

So, for that reason, I’d like to hand you some kudos for this very effective post. It lines out exactly what needs to happen to create a quality article. The only thing I would add is that it is good to plan ahead a little bit. Creating an outline of your topic and then “fleshing it out” will help the process. Also, a simple 3-step approach helps: Tell the reader what you are going to tell them–tell them–then tell them what you just told them: summary, article body and re-summarization.

    Thanks!

  31. great tips! i’ve been blogging for quite sometime now and i especially agree with making the headlines snappy. whether its blog, copy or article writing, creating snappy, eye catching headlines or titles never fail to catch readers’ interest. nice post.

    – sybil

  32. Quite new to all this but love your tips. Blogging is starting to become an addiction for me..So writing one is just round the corner.

  33. Your blog is so simple and interesting..thanks for sharing the tips..hope you coul dview my blog and evaluate……if u have the time…..

  34. When I finally get going with my blog on copywriting and running a small business, I’ll follow these tips!

    If only more bloggers did!

  35. Thanks for the tips. Will be starting my blog tonight so am cramming for some late tips.

One of my own, coming from a blog reader, don’t make private anything that’s not necessary. When I’m checking out a blog I get annoyed if I get excluded from banal topics such as ‘my favourite movie’. Why? If you’re setting up an online clique, fine, but if you want publicity let your readers get hooked by lots of free access stuff and then, if you really feel the need, set up members-only sections.

Also, the cliche ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ doesn’t necessarily apply at all times. e.g. Google doesn’t care about your images, just their labels when it’s searching for your site!

  36. Nice Tips man, hope i can apply it :D

  37. The content you have provided is pretty interesting and useful and I will surely take note of the point you have made in the blog.

Today I was browsing the Internet for information on some additional means of promoting my website apart from online promotion which I have been doing. I then came across Web Windows and found that this was the most ideal solution to complement my online marketing strategy. I bought my newspaper ad space here as it has got a readership of millions and what could be a better opportunity than this to get a national coverage at half the cost of the rate card.

I thought this information might be useful for anyone looking for solutions to get more traffic to their website at affordable rates.

  38. Thanks for the tips. Very nice and a good list, I will surely follow it. Thank again.

  39. Thanks for your nice tips.I’ll keep all these tips in my mind while posting the blogs

  40. hey its good tips please add this tips:

    – make a blog post link at the bottom of each posting means next and previous posting link with custom title tag.

  41. Darren Rowse,

Thanks for your instructions for “writing a blog spot”, its look easy and everyone can understand. Sure it will be useful for new users. the tips for creating snappy, eye catching headlines or titles never fail to catch reader ideas are very interesting.

  42. Hi,

Just wanted you to know that I saw a post almost word for word the same in most parts here:

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/594579/eleven_tips_for_writing_a_blog_post.html?cat=3#comments

Thought that you may want to know about it as the article was later and very likely taken from yours.

  43. Very good guidance on writing a blog. Really good site I will be coming back to it.

  44. Great tips and this tips are all the major ones in the internet marketing. Many business people follow this and got succeeded. Also if you are interested in creating blog articles, please share and post in Bloggingnews.net.

  45. Oh well. I’ve just started a blog. My posts regularly exceed three times the word limit. Maybe the subject matter of my blog means I’ve got to just get it all out there.

  46. Make your comments amusing would be the 11th good writing tip. People like to be amused and if you’re adding an opinion to something that really gets on your nerves, people don’t want to depress them, they want it to amuse them. This way it cheers them up and they’re more likely to come back if you give them something to titter about.

The 12th also would be: be honest. Brutally honest. If people want to read all about you, then they want to know everything – especially what make you tick. Think Big Brother – they are not famous, but they bear all and the public love it.

The 13th and most important: don’t swar at your reader, if the reader finds it distateful they will go away and never come back. However, dropping the odd profanity into 1 in 50 posts can be palatable or even amusing! Use with caution!

  47. Instead of blogging, I am trying to create a website where everyone, writter or not, can use writing to express emotions that they normally would not. Please check it out, and if you are interested in linking your blog with my site let me know

  48. Great tips.. Thanks a lot.

  49. You gotta blog to kkep people up to date with whats going on. Blogging is the fastest way of growing content on the net.
