Yahoo to launch blog ad network Wednesday
It looks like Wednesday is the day that Yahoo will launch its Publishing Network if this article at CNET is right.
‘Yahoo is planning to launch on Wednesday an ad network for small Web publishers intended to strengthen its hand against rival Google, a source familiar with the plan told CNET News.com.’
Looks like we (and numerous other sites) were right.
Update - looks like it’s official now with the New York Times featuring an article about YPN. Initially it will be just 2000 sites that beta test the network with this being opened up at the end of the year to others. Looks like those of us not in the beta have another 5 months of Adsense and need not get so excited about YPN after all. No prizes for where the 2000 blogs will be from I’ll bet.

Any word on whether there is an open application process? If there is, I’ll switch half of my sites right away just to see how they compare (google and yahoo).

I hope they are inclusive of the smaller operator.
One of the things that pissed me off about Adsense in their early days was that they were quite exclusive of small publishers and from memory publishers who were not in the US or Europe.
I still am angry at Google for having such different options for different countries in terms of payment. One way Yahoo could get a lot of bloggers on board from around the world would be to use a system like Paypal to make payment faster and simpler for those who are not lucky enough to get the Adsense direct deposit or cheques in own currencies.
I hope Yahoo don’t make the same mistakes as Google did - blogging survives on the back of the little non US bloggers as much as anyone else.
