I haven’t heard of any of us lowly non megablog type sites being added in the last few days yet. I suspect they’ll be inundated with requests to participate.

So, has anyone been accepted yet? (High traffic sties aside)

I’m really anxious to get started with it, but I’ve noticed some detractors on various sites, who are of the opinion that feeds should remain ad free. I can’t really comprehend how someone wouldn’t want the creator compelling content to be compensated. The same logic would say “I should be able to get cable without ads”, would you be wiling to pay twice to three times as much to do so?

If news feeds should be “ad free” why not all forms of web? I might be really out of touch here, but I can’t draw a distinction, between someone reading my content on an html page from someone reading it in a news reader. Sure news aggregators were mainly used by “insiders” for a long period of time, and the advertising would have probably gone mostly unnoticed anyway, but with more and more users getting hip to how easy it is to quickly scan a lot sites with a reader, isn’t this just a logical extension of the current forms of advertising?

I say if you don’t want ads in your feeds, don’t read feeds with ads. Might sound harsh, but so is getting your content distributed via RSS with no chance at even a few cents worth of clicks.

My feed views are nearly three times my html views, I for one would easily be able to justify spending even more time than the 25-30 hours a week, I already spend on my site, if I knew that ‘might’ be compensated in some fashion. As it stands now, a feed is a freebie in my opinion, and freebies historically don’t have long track records.

I’m not so sure this is such a great thing. I have a feeling the widespread adoption of AdSense and other ads in feeds may alienate people.

I am hoping that they will try a new look for the RSS ads. I’m not sure what, but something a bit different that will keep the whole online ad space fresh and interesting for site / blog readers.

Darren, will you be ‘beta-testing’ this (I sense you are often an ‘early adopter’) or are you going to wait and see if there are any tech problems or potential fallout before adopting? (Or are you even planning on adopting Adsense in your feeds at all?) Tell me to mind my own business if you like – I’m curious.

I am going to investigate how it works and how it looks before commiting to it.
