Be concise and to the point with minimal rambling.

Have a little wit, but not too much.

Be a little opinionated, but not too much.

Teach me something I didn't already know.

Introduce me to somebody I wouldn't have met otherwise.

Alex's are tough to beat, but I'd have to add a love of writing. It may seem like a tech job, but problogging is basically good writing skills combined with certain facts that are being communicated. If a problogger will have to find their groove with writing fluidly and getting past writer's block.

1) Consistency - ability to update frequently and on a permanent basis, to avoid "blogger burn". Requires some commitment.
2) Ability to think and analyze - I've seen many start off with blogs which contain nothing but links to outside stories. Unfortunately, rarely seems to work, since there can only be one Slashdot. Readers would look for original thoughts and ideas.
3) Expertise in at least one areas beyond blogging itself - digital cameras (wink), programming, or mesothelioma. Blogging about blogging itself is just boring.
4) An eye for design - ability to go beyond default WordPress and MovableType templates.
5) Passion for the topic - that's where great scoops and great editorials come from.
