Mailing List Services

Does anyone out there know of any plugins for Word Press and Moveable Type that are for collecting and generating a mailing list for your blog? I’ve been using a paid system for the past year that has been very unreliable. I’m sick of writing up emails to send to those that have signed up for my mailing list only to find that the program which is billed as seamless and easy to use doesn’t end up sending anything 50% of the time.

It doesn’t have to be a plug in for WP or MT – I’m looking for something that will allow me to collect email addresses (opt in style) and shoot out weekly emails. It needs to be cheap (free is good, but willing to pay) and able to handle lists of over 3000 recipients. Any suggestions would be gladly received.

  1. I’ve been using Mojo for years (now Dada Mail): mojo dot skazat dot com

Has worked very well for us…I have a sub/unsub form on the newsletter page, it’s free, etc., etc.

  2. I use a home-brewed system utilizing Yahoo Groups, a Movable Type template, a little PHP and cron.

Once a week my site automatically sends an email with brief snippets from and links to each of the entries in the last week to my Yahoo Group.

Very simple, but easy and I never have to worry about it. I’ll share it with you, if you don’t find anything else.

  3. There are a few wordpress plugins. Let me dig around and i will shoot you an email with a link.

    Although I use ezinedirector.com

  4. MT-Notifier is very good, and it could probably be combined with Campaign M onitor (campaignmo nitor.com) for some really impressive results.

Wow! I didn’t know that site was that good!

  6. If you use Feedburner, they have a free service called Email Subscriptions that will send your feed out as a daily e-mail (or as often as you post). All you have to do is signup with Feedburner, configure your feed, then go to the publicize tab in your account settings. Click on the Email Subscriptions link and select the Feedburner option. Enter the information about your feed. Feedburner than provides you a snippit of code you can place on your blog.

This creates a subscribe via e-mail box on your blog. Anytime anyone signs up they are added to the list and will start receiving your posts by e-mail. Pretty painless.

You can get a list of your subscribers from the same tab. You apparently already have a list, so I’m not sure if their is an easy way to incorporate your existing list into Feedburner. Otherwise, however, I think this is a great way to stay in contact with your readers by email.
