Do forum signature links help PageRank and SERPS?
One of the tips I’ve seen given in many SEO articles is that if you add your blog’s URL as a signature in your messages left in forums that you’ll increase your Search Engine Ranking. It makes sense, especially if you use the keywords you’re targeting – however Search Engine FAQ is running a test on the theory and so far it seems that such a strategy is yet to prove to be helpful in increasing page rank.

All is not lost however trolling forums to promote your site in signatures is your strategy because it can still send significant traffic to your site if you choose the right forums and are genuine in your comments.

It wouldn’t help in the search engine ranking but wouldn’t it help in building backlinks?

My experience is that forum signatures work very well, provided the ‘no follow’ isn’t set. I also make sure that I start threads related to my major keywords so that when search engines crawl my forum profile pages they see my website URL, and threads that I’ve started with all of my keywords on page. Definitely helps with SERPs.

If you have hundreds of backlinks, your google page rank increases and of course your seach ranking increases too.If you have thousands of back links every niche keyword you put in your home page is a gold mine for it will always appear on the first page of search results.

I’ve had clients who’ve gotten a service to do the work for them. They got a few hundred forum signatures on related and authoritative forums. I’m not sure I would have advised them to get it done but most of them were happy with the results. That being said, I’d still highly warn anyone in doing something like that.

I am interested to know about this. I am afraid google will get up set and penalise people though. Hopefully there is no way they can find out.
