About ProBlogger

Posted By Darren Rowse 27th of September 2004 ProBlogger Site News 101

Welcome to ProBlogger – the Blog that helps bloggers to add income streams to their blogs.

My name is Darren Rowse and I’m a full time Blogger making a living from this new and dynamic medium from blogs like Digital Photography School.

Back in 2002 I stumbled upon an article about ‘Blogging’. I didn’t know it at the time but that moment changed my life. I know that statements like that belong on those cheesy ‘buy my book’ sites (don’t worry I’m not selling anything) but it is actually true.

Within 24 hours of reading the article I had started my own Blog – a personal blog where I’ve explored issues of Pop Culture, Spirituality and Blogging ever since. I learnt so much for the experience of that blog that I’ve since started many other blogs.

In 2005 I embarked with three others on the biggest blogging project I’ve ever done – b5media – a blog network that has over 100 blogs written by many bloggers from around the world.

As my blogs have grown in popularity and have begun to generate income Blogging has grown from a hobby (some would say an obsession), to a part time job through to a fully fledged business in recent times. I have slowly built my blogging into a income source that has enabled me to dedicate more and more time to the medium to the point where I am currently a full time blogger – a ProBlogger.

If you want to read an extended version of my story I’ve written it at Becoming a ProBlogger. You might also like to visit my ProBlogger in the Press page.

This site is dedicated to helping other bloggers learn the skills of blogging, share their own experiences and promote the blogging medium.

I started it in September 2004 mainly because I wanted to keep a record of what I was learning about blogging for money. Since then I’ve added over well over 3500 articles, tips, tutorials and case studies to my archives here.

I am on the verge of early retirement and plan to augment my pension and savings with income earned on-line. I’ve been blogging on and off for 2 or 3 years and have been building my own web sites for over ten years. AdSense checks have been coming every month for the last year.

I am very pleased to have come across your blogs and will likely be spending quite a bit of time on them. Two of your blogs are the first two links in the new category, ” resource blogs,” on my exit78 blog. They are also mentioned in a new post.

Thank you very much for all of the information that you are sharing! I am a very strong believer in providing valuable and/or interesting content online while trying to make a little bit of money doing it and I appreciate very much how you are doing just that.

  25. I would love it if you could take a look at my blog and make a diagnosis of its “health”. Maybe you could give me a few tips for making it grow and get better!

  26. There are so many blogs out there. it is hard for yours to get noticed, besides keep updating content, a blogger also need to promote his blog by going to other blogger site and leave comment ,participate on forum etc….

  27. Top 5 ways to promote your blog or site:

    1. Make sure that you have an interesting posts especially the headline must be eye-catching. This will be your linkbait for other bloggers.

    2. Optimize your blog posts with prominent search keywords. This will be your linkbait for search engines.

    3. Visit other blogs related to your theme in MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog and others. Link exchange with them. Show your expertise by commenting in their posts. Prioritize those with high PageRank of 4+. Since your interest is also their interest, they will love visiting your blog. If they like it, most likely they will link to you.

If you have more time, interact with popular blogs and forums not related to your theme.

    4. Join the review program or contests of popular blogs like ProBlogger and JohnChow that offer backlinks. They can give you a flash flood of traffic. If your post is interesting, some of them will stay with you.

    5. Always bookmark your posts with Digg, Delicious, Technorati, Furl, Reddit, StumbleUpon and other popular social bookmarking site.

  28. Wow! The best blog that i’ve never seen! A really good job! I’m a starter with a lot of passion, and now you can lean me with your tips!

I made my blog so I can make some extra money and maybe buy my own computer… I love the look and feel of this site and the entire b5 media network for that matter!

Im glad you found blogging, because without your work, I would not have made my blog!

Thanks for the inspiration and keep doing what your doing.

    – The guy without a computer.

  31. Hi Darren,

Since someone had brought up the Google Adsense topic over the weekend. I have been reading your Adsense – Tips for Bloggers after I googled “ad sense”. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on blogging. I want to try to start my own blog and I am studying hard on blogging. You are my mentor.

Although it is a personal preference, may I suggest that the Responses are in a descending order? At first, I thought that the Responses were not updated for a while and perhaps time to leave (kidding) until I had scrolled down a page or two.

  32. Hi Darren. I am going to Athens, Greece this coming Monday and a friend of mine told me that I could blog my trip and what I do each day, etc. and I could make money from it. How do I need to get started b/c I would love to do this?

  33. Like what Darren is blogging about. Very inspirational. With ProBlogger one can dig out the multitude of valuable information and advice on blogging. Somebody who wants to make something out of creativity must be in a place where the ambience and the overall feel of the place will trigger inspiration. When creating my Affiliated Business I tried to find places to get some inspiration but couldn’t find any room for creativity untill I stumbled upon ProBlogger. Besides that you’re provided here with the most interesting model for alternative online income. Great job!

  34. Hi Darren, I came across your blog the other day and I’ve visited several times a day since then (when I should really be working, really).

I find your content and blogging style inspirational, particularly your tips for making a blog sticky by linking relevant posts together. I’m trying that method this week, my attempt is a bit clumsy but what the heck? We live and learn. Also beginning to plan my posts ahead so that I’m not scrambling for something to blog about on a day-to-day basis.

I’ve had a run-in with Google AdSense before which didn’t bring the riches I so rightly deserve; might try it sometime on my new blog, should visits become plenty enough for the Euro signs to start rolling in my bloodshot eyes.

Also, also, just listened to your interview with Yaro Starak, very interesting indeed, glad it’s all working out well for you.

    Best of luck!

  35. You look just like Steve Jobs in that picture..

  36. Truly inspirational. Count me in as your latest member!

Not at all to discredit you, thought you would want to correct “verion” to “version” in “If you want to read an extended verion of my story I’ve written it at Becoming a ProBlogger. You might also like to visit my ProBlogger in the Press page.” before lots more people read it.

Do keep going, I enjoyed whatever I read at your blog.
