Here's what I found:

http://netcf2.blogspot.com/2005/11/blogging-categories-categories.html

And it works:

http://papistories.blogspot.com

Maybe not the most intuitive, but he's got a code generator on his site that you can add your categories (you'll have to alphabetize them yourself) and it uses blog search to return results. I added a page element for html/javascript and copy pasted a table into my sidebar.

Anyone tried the new Blogger Beta? You can sign up at http://beta.blogger.com and create an account... Still very buggy and not ready for prime time, but it does have a new feature called Labels which you can use to categorize posts. Many of the new features seem to aim at getting the general public (non-programmers) to start using Blogger -- stuff like drag and drop template editing...

I've done something like it here:

categories.blogspot.com

The script on the minima template: [link]

The minima template code with the script marked in red.[link]

I hope you can figure it out but do ask if you get stuck. I'm looking for cool ideas for blogger scripts.

I am going to be trying some of these tricks on some of my blogs. I am not sure which ones I am going to be trying first though or on which blogs. I may set up a test blog to try them all.

Another method for Categories in Blogger: I add tags to my post that are valid in technorati but also link to del.icio.us. When you bookmark the post to your del.icio.us account, the tags become your categories, & del.icio.us manages them for you. As a side benefit, your posts are also picked up by tag search engines. Other folks are building on this method w/ drop-down menus & such. See Freshblog for the scoop.

Aloha Darren,

I'm a regular reader of Problogger and linked to it from my blog. I'm new at blogging and learning along the way how to make my blogging both interesting and profitable. I have been working on my blog to add more features like calendar, categories and RSS, XML. My blog is on blogger and it doesn't come with built in category feature like other blog services like wordpress, typepad, etc. I went to spide.blogspot.com and although I managed to put a permanent link on my blog, I still couldn't understand how to put my posts in organized category. My Archive list still show 'dates' instead of 'title post'. How do I change that? Thank you and I apologize if my questions are too basic.
Best,
Shin
