Since writing the Finding Readers series of blog tips I’ve had a number of people ask for more information on getting listed on Search Engines – particularly Google.

Patrick Taylor has written a great post on Boosting your Google Ranking. He incorporates most of the tips I’ve seen written elsewhere in a way that even I (mostly) understand.

His main points include:

Archive Individual Posts
Incorporate post title into individual post title tags – I have this and it seems to work very well.
Link a lot – and try to attract links
Wrap Hypertext around words – ie don’t have links like click here but instead use descriptive terminology that people are likely to do a search on. Eg the best digital photography link on the web.
Make your blog slim/trim and fast – he provides great resources for this.

Anyway – there is heaps to think about in his article – check it out.

  1. Blog Tip 18 – Getting listed on Search Engines
Since writing the Finding Readers series of blog tips I’ve had a number of people ask for more information on getting listed on Search Engines – particularly Google…. This post has been moved to Pro Blogger – Getting Listed…

  2. I just started blogging and have had essentially no traffic and of course have made no money. I found your articles useful and will try some tips. Since I don’t know a thing about blogging, I am scrambling to find info to help. I currently use adsense, but the whole thing about getting indexed is still confusing to me. I have two other blogs that are probably not as interesting as the first mentioned, but they were relevant to popular key words I found. My other sites are http://www.survivingyourspouse.blogspot.com and http://www.myrunningcircleslog.blogspot.com. I’m not in it to make the big bucks, but it would be fun to make a little extra. Anyway, just wanted to let you know I like your blog!

  3. I started to use adsense about ten months ago, since then I visited your blog almost everyday to gain tips from your site.
I have been able to make more money to just read tips from problogger.
Then I decided to make blog to adsense newbie in Indonesia, to help them with adsense.
And this seo article is very helpfull to bring more visitors

    Thank You Darren

  4. Thank you for this informative post! I am really in a search to boost my traffic in order to add a few more people to chat with. I don’t have a blog that is full of information, as I made a site for the sole purpose of letting my visitors play games and that’s all. But I do find that even if some don’t apply to me, most of your tips and “secrets” are very helpful in not only raising pagerank and other greedy wishes that most webmasters have, but also, I’ve enjoyed how your blog helps webmasters interact. I’ve been refered to your blog each time I asked my webmaster friends how to improve in designing and writing content for my site. There are many links on your site which I’ve found very helpful. However, I don’t prefer “Arial Narrow” as a font on a webpage as it looks somewhat choppy and is a tiny bit hard to read… just a personal comment that I would like to add. Thanks for your informative content! Compared to other ones which are built to make money, this SEO optimization blog is rated highest by a longshot.

  5. Thanks for all the advice

  7. Problogger has motivated me to start my own blog relating to issues faced by busy mom’s and families. The blogging is enjoyable but I need to monetarily justify the time involved. Thank you for your wonderful tips about Adsense and getting listed in search engines. I have already implemented much of your advice.

  8. My sites are indexed by Google in 2 days.. The best way to get indexed by having a link backs from a decent web sites.

    Thanks

  9. I have used google webmasters to index my site and also sitemap but why my site still not shown on the search results? Can anyone help me please?

  10. Good points. I use Blogger, figuring that Google would take care of the “heavy lifting” — which it did. Wrapping hypertext around words is a good idea and leads to more readable posts.
