AdSense Introduce Reports for Link Units

Posted By Darren Rowse 15th of April 2008 Adsense 18

I just logged into my AdSense account to check my nightly stats and found a new reporting option in the ‘Advance Reports’ section (pictured below).

Now you can choose to view ‘Ad Units’ or ‘Link Units’ or ‘Both’.

Ad Units are all of your normal ad units (text ads, image ads, video ads) and ‘Link Units’ are those little adlink unit ads that many bloggers use around their navigational areas that take readers to a second page of ads.

it’s good to see these stats as they were previously all mixed into one in the advance reports unless you’d set them up in channels.

  1. Nice improvement – I guess they are throwing us a bone after the somewhat controversial slide-scroll implementation. What kind of feedback are you hearing on those? Most people I have talked with haven’t seen much improvement, and a few are downright mad about the permanent scrolls.

  2. The most important report has yes to be implemented, but probably never will. The keywords. :)

  3. Even if you have your link units in their own channels (as I do), this new feature still provides something new to us. Namely, it now shows you how many clicks the unit got, but ALSO how many overall clicks the ads on the interstital / ad listing page got. So, for example, I can now see that a link unit got 100 clicks on one day, but that led to 200 clicks on the resulting ads.

This could be very useful for comparing different link units on different sites to see which get the most ads per click.

  4. I can only hope that these new features are a precursor to what’s coming with the Salesforce partnership. Of course, this is probably wishful thinking. I can only imagine the possibilities…

  5. I didn’t know you still used Adsense, Darren.

For some reason I thought you dropped it.

  6. This could definitely be useful in the long-run. I hope they continue to innovate when it comes to adsense..

  7. It is a great improvement that we can track the results.

  8. yeah i heard keywords are becoming less important these days.dont know if its true though!

  9. Google is sometimes like any other corporation. They tend to move slowly.

  10. Wow…This is really a perfect step towards user-friendly Adsense. I love them like anything…

  11. thanks for the info darren. it surely increases the accessibility.

  12. It is a good feature to observe the performance of adsence link units and helps channel data.
    Thank you for information.

  13. This is definitely a useful tool. It always strikes me as odd that every adsense user isn’t taking full advantage of the channels, but since there are plenty of people who don’t want to bother with channels, this is a great/easy alternative. Plus, being able to see the click counts from the interstitial page is a hot tool for those using channels as well.

  14. Yea I noticed that this morning as well, I think this is great since I use link units right around my pages navigation area.

  15. You are so prompt in finding new thinks! This is definitely nice on google’s part and we can track the link-stats separately – got to check it out!

    :)

  16. Link units report will help us check the performance of unit ads on our blog/website

  17. I got banned from Google adsense in my very early days as a blogger because I thought I could get away with clicking on my own ads.
I feel like such a dumbass sometime…all the revenue I am missing out on.
Is the any way to get your account with Adsense re-activated?

  18. Well it will surely help us track our link units. So the less performing ones can be eliminated.
