AdSense Fix Inverted Exchange Rate Problem for Australian and New Zealand Publishers

Posted By Darren Rowse 3rd of January 2008 Adsense 12

Earlier in the week it was revealed that AdSense had made a mistake in calculating payments to some non US publishers. It seems that the problem was localized here in Australia and New Zealand and that Google inverted the exchange rate that they used to calculate how much publishers would be paid in their local currency.

Yesterday I chatted to an AdSense Australia rep about the problem and she told me that today AdSense will begin to advise publishers of the mistake and their plans to fix the problem. They’re sending the following email to publishers impacted by the mistake:

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season.

It appears that the November payment you received was calculated using an inverted exchange rate. We’d like to let you know that you’ll be receiving an additional payment using the correct exchange rate to make up the difference. This payment will be issued to your bank account this week and we expect that you’ll receive it by Monday, January 7, 2008 if not sooner.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Small mishap. What’s great is that Google responded to the problem so quickly and paid the publishers the difference.

  2. Funny how when you look at Google online organizational chart the guys who run AdSense and AdWords (essentially the only thing Google does which brings in income) are way down the totem pole from the major execs. Seems to indicate to me where their focus really is.

In the past year they’ve written a number of NSF checks to publishers as well … basic business 101 practices viloated on a regular basis.

And US schools haven’t bothered with “old fashioned” things like fractions in years … that’s what calculators are for. Of course if you input the wrong number …..

  3. Darren, did they cancel your check? or will they pay you the difference next month?

  4. Yeah, it does seem like they caught it quick. It doesn’t sound like the horror I heard about YSM though…but that’s not from experience.

  5. It’s not surprising to me that they are having a hard time with the conversion rates. The dollar continues to slide at a staggering pace. Heck, not too long ago it took two Canadian dollars to equal up to one greenback…those days are long gone. The fact that Google owned up to the issue so quickly demonstrates integrity on their part. Could have been a while before anyone noticed.

  6. Yah i believe no one is perfect so everyone can make mistakes but it takes a real good company to respond it so fast so I think that is good on Google part

  7. I’m a new blogger with a blog nowhere near professional or impressive, but it seems to me like your posts are getting a little, well, um . . . cheap. I’ve gotten much from your blog and I love your video posts, but your regular posts seem to have gone down hill. Like the Q&A post about “showing up,” it was disappointing. Your posts just aren’t as compelling as they used to be.

  8. Well Darren, it is gooit is good that finally your voice has been heard.

It is good for all the Australian as well as the New Zealander bloggers and publishers who use adsense.

  9. They’re putting an extra deposit in accounts.

  10. So they are not going to send you new check ?

Well at least I am glad I live in Hawaii instead of Australia :) even though my second living wish was Sydney!

  11. They are big Daddy thats why they are putting Extra money to the accounts hehehe
