We all know that content is king and that if you keep blogging… if you keep doing what you love… the traffic and the money will follow suit. While that’s partially true, there is also things that you can do to:

  • Index your newly launched blog fast by major Search Engines Having a consistent keyword-username on all major Social Sites will help get your blog indexed faster, and at a later stage it will also help build a “brand” for your blog. So, get account on major Social Sites for your newly launched blog, namely: Twitter, Facebook (create a page for your blog), Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious etc. By the way, it’s a good pratice to create a separate Social Sites account for each of your projects. This way you can stay focused and post messages that are related to your project. In the long run, this will help build a community that are like-minded around your project.Note from Darren: it’s worth nothing that many social media sites (like Twitter) use no follow tags on links which means the links don’t really help with SEO. Having said this – it’s still worth getting pages for your keywords/brand as these pages can rank in and of themselves in Google and can help you to have control over numerous search results for the same keyword.

    5. Misc Sites

Squidoo is a community website that allows people to create pages (called “lenses”) on various topics. Creating a topic that is related to your blog and then including your feed in that page would help your blog get indexed by Search Engines. Squidoo used to have a really good ranking in Google results, but not so much today. But it’s still ranks well and it shouldn’t be neglected.

ChangeDetection is a website that monitors sites for changes. When you monitor a particular site using ChangeDetection, it will ask you whether you want the notices to be public or private. If you say public, it will be published in their news section. For example; AdesBlog.com got an update today, type of update: text additions etc. This of course will get picked up by Search Engines and Search Engines in return will index your blog.

Technorati is a search engine for searching blogs. According to Wikipedia, as of June 2008, Technorati was indexing 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. It’s a dying breed, but not just dead yet. You have to definitely register for an account and get your blog listed on Technorati.

That’s it. Once you are done with creating accounts and submitting your newly launched blog in the above mentioned sites, you should see your blog in Google’s Search Results within 24 hours. Most of the time it will appear within the next few hours only.

Lastly, getting indexed is one thing but sustaining that traffic is another. And this is where the Content is King phrase should truly be emphasized. Because, without a good and valuable content, all your effort will be just wasted.

I hope you have found this post useful.

  2. Thanks, Darren.

I try your tips to index blog quickly and it really works.
Especcialy I like Site Valuation Sites – some of them can’t find new sites but other do it and make page with active link. And new site is already indexed! Thanks!

  3. I signed up for the OctoFinder but didn’t know what was meant by back links etc? Do I need to do something else other than add my URL?

  4. This is great post. I agree the final comment that content is king or highly optimized content is king!

  5. Well I guess that you probably add this one http://www.pingomatic.com. This pings the search engine that some recent updates are made in the blog which will help you to rise your rankings in SERP as your post is fresh one.

  6. I wouldn’t say that this post isn’t helpful, but I have managed to get to the top of Google search results within *1-2 hours* of posting. And I didn’t use any of the techniques mentioned. It really all boils down to keyword selection.

  7. I really like the tips. Though our blog is about half a year old already, most of the tips are still applicable to our Onesuite blog. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Thanks for the tips. I usually use the http://www.google.com/addurl and the ones for bing and yahoo. I just submit the site to google, yahoo and bing

  9. hoho. i know about ades. He really great blogger.

  10. Feed-squirrel is no longer accepting submissions.

  11. Hey, THANKS Darren, these are some great ideas … I will bookmark this and come back to it again. I knew about MyBlogLog, but these ones a re new to me: BlogCatalogk, Blogged and NetworkedBlogs. very helpful. I found you on mybloglog.

  12. This is a valuable post.
    I appreciate it.

  13. I believe that content is king. In addition, I also use Google Webmaster Tools to help me find out which post and keywords that readers use to get to my blog.

  14. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions!

The post was intended to be used for any website (not only blogs). As for blogs, using SEO Plugins, creating xml sitemap and using pinging services do help greatly in getting listed and improving search rankings.

As for adding your URL to Webmaster Tools of Google, Bing and Yahoo, it’s a must. However, it doesn’t guarantee a fast listing. Dealing with Search Engines directly has always been tricky. They do not behave the same to all websites, so it’s quite hard to tell when exactly your blog/website can be listed after you add your URL to them.

However if you follow the above methods, which are indirect methods… then it almost forces Search Engines to index your blog right away! :)

  15. Thanks so much for this helpful resource – I have it bookmarked!

Late last month my site went down for three days during some unexpected failures with my hosting provider. I ended up getting dropped from the search engines and am having to start over… seems like it is taking longer this time then when my site was newly listed …

The good thing is that my research on the subject led me to this page with some very helpful new tricks!

    Thanks again – Cheers,
    Brenda

  16. Great tips for a new blogger. Thanks a lot, I will try some of them and see how it goes.

  17. Thanks for the help, your advice is helping for my website too.

  18. Just a little hint. When you use Facebook, sign up for Networked blogs, which, once it is set up on your Facebook page will automatically generate the post on the Page. Link your Twitter page to your Facebook page and the Facebook page will automatically Tweet your Post. Saves some work.

  19. cool. I love this hint.

  20. this is a good information…i hope this information can help my site indexed by google quickly.

  21. Wow, Great article..
take action now for my new blog..

  22. Wow ! Great info. i’ll surely be using it for my blogs.

  23. Excellent tips. Thanks @ades

  24. thank you for the great information. I’ve been struggling with trying to get our site indexed and hadn’t thought about treating the blog as a separate entity. this was a fantastic post!

  25. These are excellent tips!

In my experience, that is, this is what works for me: Posting daily content!
    How about the ping services?

  26. Excellent post and guide to fast indexing on google.Hve followed the directions and indeed was indexed the same day..Thankyou for taking the time to explain this essential information

  27. While I’ve utilized many of these, the greatest factor in getting my website indexed in under 24 hours was utilizing a ping list and an automatic social bookmarking plugin I have installed on my blogs.

  28. very useful information, it help me so much. Thanks.

  29. Great list. My blog got indexed in 24 hours just by blog comments.

  30. Excellent post, Darren and also my thanks to Shoemoney. Will experiment it now. I searched all over the forums to see how to get listed in Google Blog Search but nothing is as convincing as this post.

  31. WOW this is a great collection of tips, many of which I never would have thought of! Very much appreciated.

My sincere apologies! I thought Darren and Shoemoney were two different people, But if they were two rolled into one (alter egos like Robert DeNiro in Hide and Seek), well I am sorry again!

  33. Thanks for this post, previously we guarranteed our customers 72hours to get indexed by Google. Will test this out and offer our customers a 24hr time period instead. thanks

  34. Great tips and I love how some of the commenters add even more tips. I never thought of the site valuation sites. Thank you!

  35. I never knew we could use these methods to index our blogs faster than the usual process. Alas, I had to go through the usual process of getting indexed. But nevertheless, I can use this process to generate traffic :) Thanks for this article!

  36. Thanks so much! I didn’t even know that these blog communities existed! Hopefully these will give my blog a head start.

  37. Hey…glad to read your review and I had checked out the article. You may want to link to it in your story

  38. I have to add to the list of appriciative comments, this really is a great little starting list of some of the best sites you can use to help get your blog noticed and boost SEO. As will all things there are literally hundreds of sites you can add your blog to. I am sure 90% of the traffic will come from 10% of the sites and resources – so it is good to have someones preference list based on personal experience to help point us in the right direction.

There is only one thing I think you missed here – using widgets and plugins. I have quite a few widgets but one I particular think has SEO potential is Twitoaster – this can be set to automatically post onto your twitter feed when you create a new post (you can set the format of the tweet it sends), it also then tracks replies to the tweet and pops them into your blog’s comments. I am sure there are other widgets like this one as well which can really help people get some extra traffic by automating simple actions (lets face it you cant fit more than the post title and link on a tweet anyway, so automating it doesn’t hurt!).

Would be interested to see your thoughts on how this and similar technologies might help.

  39. Here i want to mention is that i have used another way to be get indexed by google easily is that by using wordpress plugin onlywire bookmark and share button that submits post to about 30 social site with just one single click

  40. Commenting posts in well-written blogs like this one here is another way of getting indexed by search engines, I suppose.

  41. Wow. This is an amazing list and just what I was looking for to start promoting my site. Oh, and great intro too; I felt like you were literally talking about me, which is what many low profile bloggers will think.

  42. Hubpages is another good site, where you can write articles and link out to your blog from them. Once your “hubs” get higher rankings on the site, they become decent PR links.

  43. I find that performing the following two steps works a treat:

-create & ping your xml sitemap
-comment on recent posts from authoritative blogs or news related websites

    Easy Peasy :D

  44. Thanks for all of the great information. Many things that I don’t normally do are included there.

I will give them a try.

  45. But i have experience my site are indexed without i do anything. I’m just buy that domain and i haven’t written even an article on it but google immediately index it. I don’t know why but i like it..

  46. This is a great post. As i am a new blog publisher and i have no idea that how can i index my blog in top search engines. This post help me a lot.
    Thanks
